Acoustic Guitar
The guitar, brought from Spain, accompanies the cuatro or it’s used independently for bohemian music. Widely known throughout the world, the guitar is a very popular instrument in Puerto Rico and it’s played with other typical instruments for all types of music. Guitar, Level 1 Age range: 10 years of age and older (adults accepted). Requirements: None, except a desire to learn. Registration fee: $40.00 Meetings: The group will meet once a week on Thursdays at 7 PM at the Okeeheelee Community Middle School in West Palm Beach, for a total of 8 sessions. Objectives: 1. Get acquainted with the guitar instrument, its origins, history and famous performers. 2. Learn how to care for and fine-tune the guitar instrument. 3. Develop hand coordination necessary to play the guitar. 4. Learn how to read and apply the tablature method to play the guitar. 5. Be able to interpret at least three simple musical pieces with the guitar. Goal: To receive an Attendance Certificate and the opportunity to register for the Guitar, Level 2, program.
